petrol,will it run backwards

hi all,when the van has stood for 3 weeks or so it takes forever and a little fuel to be poured in to the carbs to start her.any ideas please.its all new pipe work,new starter alternator battery etc,carbs are webbers,could it be that the fuel pump is sticking,cheers..once running its sweet,and you can turn her off and back on,cheers..

Its a long run from front to back for the fuel. Pump may be weak, providing just enough to push it to the carb but perhaps not enough for the entire run, quickly enough. If you are consistently having to leave vehicle standing for 3 weeks or more, perhaps an electric pump would suit you better as you can prime the line in a few seconds then.

If there's a leak in the pump diaphragm or pipe the fuel will fall back to the tank level
but there should be enough in the float bowl to kick it over..

my dad had a rover p6 and it would run on when the key was switched off, but the engine was infact running backwards, proved by letting the clutch out in 1st and the car moving in reverse........ that was a timing issue !!
