There's a listing for a convex t25 mirror. It looks like a regular flat one due to the straight edges of the plastic surround. Am I wrong, is there such a thing as a convex mirror for these vans? Cheers, Mitch.

I've just bought Lucas replacement mirrors that were both convex, unfortunately you have to use the offside one in landscape rather than portrait.

yes there were and are convex mirrors, in all types
with the standard mirror the plastic is straight on the outside edge the curve is visible on the inside edge of the outer plastic lip (ie where the plastic touches the glass)
original ones (only available used, ie old) are better in their quality and coverage than the ones sold nowadays new ime but convex ones give a good deal more coverage than the plain glass

How could I not know this??????? I was under the impression that I'd need an expensive upgrade to improve upon the pee poor performance of my current mirrors!!!! I'd better get some purchased asap! Cheers, Mitch.

Got mine from the local motor factors. About £8 each.

Did the ones from the motor factors fit into the original mirror housings?

Brickwerks sell oem convex mirrors for both sides (Hagus) for about £25 a side. No need to use the in landscape rather than portrait (never heard of a landscape mirror) and they are far better quality than the nasty under £10 jobs (I've tried them) where the glass starts to rattle in the plastic moulding and you have to take them off every few months to tighten the nut to stop them flopping in the wind until eventually the nut rusts solid and you can no longer tighten them.

However, after a quick Brickwerks search, it seems they are not in stock but a quick email to them and they will let you know when they will get some back in stock

(E D I T) Just a quick look at JK and they only have one side in stock too

Looked for cheapy replacement lense in Halfords but they only stock '94 onwards, any pointers as to another retailer that may have them? Mitch.

Brickwerks and JK usually source the same Hagus brand from Germany. However, transfer the thicker tension springs from your original mirrors to the new ones as you will see the new springs are much thinner and they do not stop the mirrors flipping.

@ ralf, I'm only thinking of replacing the lenses as opposed to the entire mirror units - are we on the same sheet? Mitch.

You could spend forever looking for the glass on its own. JK has Hagus convex mirrors in stock.

were all prob on the same sheet, but mayhap different planets. do you intend to cut open yopur old mirror and fit new lens and then reglue??

If that's what is required. Clearly I've yet to even touch the mirrors but I'd love to improve the visibility from them so that my better half will have the confidence to drive the van. Next step.............

Standard fit was convex on the passenger side, flat on the drivers side. Original ones are still available from VW dealers at a price.

Am I on the right track here? Someone is after changing the mirror glass in fixed frame a standard mirror, where the glass cannot be changed without destroying the frame..............when there are standard mirrors on the market with convex glass already in them for £26
