side light weirdness

hmmmmm

I cleaned the dash yesterday and accidentally squirted some cleaner into the headlight switch. Following that the rhs side light front and back came on. Ok, I thought, a bit of fluid shorting the switch - take it out and wiggle it around a bit (so to speak  ) and that should do the trick.

So I took the switch out and removed the wiring from the rear. But the same side lights remained on - how can that be? Surely all current goes through the switch so if i have disconnected it then no lights should work at all.

Unless I have discovered an intermittent parking light

Anyway - I put the switch back in and the lights went off! As long as it is fixed I suppose I dont care but it is puzzling.

Sounds to me like you moved the indicator stalk down or up from central whilst messing with the light switch and switched the parking lights on and then off?

Mocki - you are spot on. The RHS front and rear side light comes on when the indicator stalk is left signalling right and vice versa. Is this a true parking light feature that I just didnt know about? Or is there some other reason for it? If it is feature then i wonder how quickly it drains the battery - it is pretty bright from the front sidelight.

cheers

It's on all late t25 and I think all VW of that era
It appears you just didn't know about it !
It's a right pain in the whatsit if you pull up by the side of the road whilst indicating and turn the engine off and get out during the day !
