North Devon Carparks to allow overnighting

Hi all
Looks like North Devon Council will be allowing overnighting in some of their car parks as they (somewhat progressively for a local council) have realised it may actually help their tourism industry!

We're planning on heading down there this weekend so might go and check one out and report back!

They have started to do this on Hayling Island. But the cost to stay for a day and a night is in the region of £20.
I look forward to hearing how you get on.

I should have read the link before posting!
I'd be very happy to pay £5 for the night.
I just hope people don't start leaving their rubbish behind and emptying their chemical toilets in the bushes.

Thats always the frustrating thing isn't it - if this doesn't work out it will be because of a very small selfish minority of campervaners/motorhomers who abuse the spirit in which it is designed and leave the council feeling its just not worth the effort.

The wording in the link refers specifically to motor homes like this extract.
"We hope this will bring extra business into the area because people in motor homes are usually reasonably well off. By using a car park for a night they will likely spend in shops and restaurants."
Makes you wonder why the word campervan is not used anywhere in the link.

Probably because Joe Average doesn't understand or appreciate a difference.

That £20 is for night only.
I camp there for free. Van is classed as a light goods vehicle.
