As above, what are you running/what do you recommend & why?

For sheer usability across many rev ranges, simplicity and economy the Pierburg has no rival.
For grin inducing acceleration, power increase and noise the Delorto DRLA twin carb set up.

Weber carbs do not work well on T25's because unlike the above they are a faff to set up and still rob the van of power.

Never found owt wrong with the Pierburg myself ?

All academic. Unless you're making serious changes elsewhere, a carb swap seems totally pointless to me. I'm saying this as someone who has built numerous big VW engines and adapted others to fit. The carb is just one element in a chain and its potential can only be fully realised by looking at everything else. If its stock, no rival to the original, as said.

Interesting... I have made my way to vans via Golfs (etc) and so when I spotted the carb was a pierburg I wanted shot of it asap as I do not rate the pierburgs which were fitted to a lot of golfs (etc!)..... so the pierburg here works well and is rated then? very interesting indeed!

Yes, but you have to bear in mind that the T25 is fairly underpowered and theres a weight factor compared to the golf. For that reason, plus the constantly rising cost of fuel, most van owners tend to lean towards economy (hence the growth in LPG conversions). Now if we were talking Beetles, the whole thing would be different but again rather than just trying to force more fuel in, I'd be looking at how I could improve breathing throughout plus bore size, timing and a plethora of other things, if performance was the number one priority.

I must admit I used to get pretty cheesed off with new bug owners wanting 009 and weber conversions yet gave no thought to even basic things like better brakes. I don't think they really got it. You alter one thing and it affects something else. Plus we're talking about the flat four here, not something designed to rev high.

well the carb would never have been the only 'tweek' to the mechanicals of the van just to be clear I just hate the crappy pierburgs which are fitted to some golfs and assumed these t25 ones would be just as crap! To be honest it's why I asked; I'm still on the T25 learning curve here and I value the opinion of experience a great deal.... although from time to time I like to make my own mistakes haha!
cheers for the input anyway; the van came with an LPG conversion but it needs a little work so thats on the agenda asap!

Yes it's a similar analogy with webers and vans ..they are just crap too.
The golf pierburg is very complicated because it is trying to conform to the emissions limits which is why efi was soon introduced with added power!

Perhaps the Golf fans will correct me but I could have sworn than my old MkI Scirocco had a twin choke Weber on it as standard (1979 1.6 GLS YET 738T) ?

some models did, they tended to be earlier ones, they also used solex in some models... but most were pooburg
