Can anyone recommend a good lock lubricant please? At this time of year I find that I have to use Plus Gas in the lock every two weeks or so. I've only go one set of keys and the door lock key is the original and I don't want it to snap off. I also need to get a new set cut - does anyone know where you can get 27 year old VW door keys cut??

I use graphite powder, but only after I've cleaned all the crap out, a good soak in white spirit usually does it. But note you will probably have a fair amount of wear in the locks after all this time, so even with good lube, you can still get problems.
I can cut you a new key if you get the lock code or send me a key to copy from (£3 for 2 posted), but most high street key/lock shops can do it for about £7 a pop

Graphite powder is the nuts. Just don't wear white linen first time you put your keys in your pocket.

I just spray a tiny bit of WD40 (using the plastic tube attachment) in the front locks in early December and that usually keeps things fine till about April when I do it again. Cheap and it also works.

Graphite powder (sold as graphite grease by locksmiths) is the stuff you should use - it comes in a small blower bottle. Apparently it is preferable to using an oil based lubricant as it doesn't lead to the lock gumming up over time.

'Locking section' at my old employer used it and everything else was banned/forbidden.

To expand, the reason WD40, white grease,silicon,PTFe etc etc was not allowed is that dust/hair/snot etc sticks to liquids and clogs the locks up making them harder to 'work' (open) but also the cra7 that sticks to it turns into a paste and exacerbates/expedites any further wear.
