Hello,

I've had my engine back to the people that refurbished it due to a crack in the cylinder head. It appears to be sorted now but he said that there is a leak in the vacuum on the dizzy. What issues will this cause?

Can I continue to drive it and is it expensive to fix?

Do I need a whole new distributor or can the vacuum be replaced separately?

Is a 1.9 petrol DG. 1983.

I assume that as the only thing on the distributor using vacuum, they must be talking about the vacuum advance unit...yes it can be changed, two screws fixing it to the distributor body and I think a circlip fixing the advance lever to the base plate (inside the distributor) 15 minute job...not a cheap part for what it is.
It can be driven but the idle might be a bit lumpy and you might feel it hesitating pulling away etc.

Also when finding a replacement you need to be sure its the right one (sometimes the screw holes in any illustration help in deciding that) and also shop around on price. There are no shortage of places that will sell you one but you can pay a fortune if you don't take the time to check all suppliers.

To be honest though, for £120, you can buy a whole brand new dizzy. All the ones I've seen have wear and with all new components it should give you many many trouble free miles. Another option anyway,
