Hi,

Planning for a3 week summer trip through France with the family (wife, 3yr old and what will be 11 month old) and a local garage have quoted on attaching an awning to the side of the van (obviously at my request!). They've recommended a Fiamma F35.

Any views on them as I don't know whether good bad or there's better out there????

There are various options with 'Pull Out' type Fiamma awnings.

The Fiamma CaravanStor...which is a manual awning that pulls out on a roll, it's legs are stored in each end of the roll and comes in a long vinyl zip poach that fastens to the side of your van.
Then there is the Fiamma F35, which is the same as the above but comes in a hard metal case that mounts on the side of your van (still manual pull out & roll in)
Then there is the Fiamma F45Ti which is in a white hard case, rolls out but uses a winding mechanism with handle...more rigid than the other two and easier to errect.

The last is the best but as with all things, it is also the most expensive.

Omnistor also make a similar product but all their range tend to be dearer than Fiamma.

We have an F45Ti 2.5 metre on ours...looks good and is up in under 30 seconds....if I'm honest and had my choice again, I may well have gone for the next size up just to give the sliding door a little more protection..(3.0 metre) although when fitted and rolled back in it's case, the 2.5 metre version does look better.

It's your choice.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I think the f45ti is the forward. I think it's now been replaced by the f45s but seems essentially the same.

Really stupid question, my wife is concerned about the wind getting underneath it and either damaging the awning or the van. If you go out away from the van do you roll yours back in or just dependent on the weather what you do with it?

Your wife is very wise.

I strap mine down at the slight hint of wind or if I ever leave the van. It doesn't take long and I've seen too many blown over the top to be lazy about it.

They do have pegging points that take a tent peg......mine has been fine for years when fixed like this....the few times I didn't bother I came back to see it all twisted and over the place.

As Keith says....on a still day you could just put a couple of pegs in the feet but to be honest if we know we are camping at least for the night, we always put a couple of guy lines on at 45 degrees to the legs.
When it's really windy we also add a strap over the canvas itself.
Fiamma do sell guy lines that use the awning channel (like on a caravan) the front section has this channel.

Yes Fiamma 45S although when looking at sizes they still seem to list the 45Ti as the model..strange.

We have a fiamma f35 pro and inenr of carelessness on my part it blew over van before I pegged it down , fortunately it was a club camp and lots if people helped sort it out.

Now if its windy I get someone to hold it for a minute whilst I peg it.

Great bits of kit and a side panel can give a bit if extra shelter in light rain /wind.

We took ours to France and used awning loads,

I have a fiamma zip awning (which is basically a F45 with full sides) but I don't have the sides. I got it off the brick yard for £150 and it was nearly new. They do come up now and again via kind forum members
