hello,
have took engine out and do a light overhaul.next job is to check the oil pump.i have got the new seals etc ready to reinstal it when checked and cleaned. the problem is have heard two different ways of priming it. in the haynes manual says prime it with engine oil, and in the volkswagen air cooled book says to prime it with vaseline or white grease before placing back .has anyone got any prefered method which they have used. any help is appreciated. i have a 1600 ct devon camper.
thanks sam

hi,
do you fill it full of vaseline and what happens to it when engine fully primed with oil does the vaseline disperse or do you have to drain and refil with new oil.
thanks sam

There is a picture of a pump greased up in the engine overhaul thread from jeffj - two down from your current post
I was surprised to see the picture of the pump filled with vaseline as had not come across this before.
