Hi , Im going to check my gearbox oil level this weekend. I have a T25 2.0 petrol Aircooled motor. Whats the easiest way ? Over the pit ? Also is the plug easy to get at ? Ive read that its on top just under the lever rod.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

The van, if standard height, is far enough off the floor to be able to check the gearbox oil by wiggling yourself underneath on your back. I usually get under there by lying on the floor between the wheels on the driver's side head to the rear, and wriggle in that way, at the rear the engine is a bit lower and thus not so easily.
But I am quite fat - if you're a skinny one you may get under from there.

Sounds like you have never checked the level before? the bung is positioned just above half way on the offside of the side of the box.
If this is the case then the age of the oil in the box is also unknown? ......drain and change it mate, I know it's going to cost £27.00 but it's a job that only needs doing every 3 - 4 years.

Someone will be along soon too tell you not to drain the gearbox until you have removed the filler plug, they can be a bit stubborn at times. Worth giving it a soaking in lubricating oil before removal.
