Hello Club 80-90

I have just bought a lovely looking metallic blue 1986 DG 1.9 water cooled van and I love it. However there are some niggles that I want to pass through you guys for your opinion. Any advice you give will be greatly appreciated. It is very interesting reading Wiki all the same....

Here goes:

1 - I have twin round headlights at the front, are these standard? The inside pair dont work. I have tried all switches (lights/gog lights) Im wondering if theyre even wired up. Is this a fault or just cosmetics? I will obviously look at the wiring but wondered if there was any background to twin headlight T3's?

2 - When I am cruising, so 20mins into journey (normal working temp) the gauge is reading midway with the red light flickering (on the temp gauge). Is this a worry, cos it does my head in?

3 - When idling cold the engine will sometimes cut out. How can I remedy this without having a degree in carburation? I mean can I tweak idler like on an old motorbike?

4 - I have already started to board out van and cover in carpet ready for my next stage of making it livable inside and would definitely like a leisure battery. Can I buy a ready to go kit with instructions? When fitted I would expect 2 extra 12v lights, a spare 12v socket for tv, and possiblya fridge for the vino when in new forest. Ideally I want a buy off the shelf kit. Do they exist and if so where?

I think that will do for now. Thanks for reading. I will attach pictures when I get my new phone back as broke.

1. that sounds like a Just campers grill...take it off and trace the wires..they some times end at the Aux or driving lamp switch..the lights have to be on for them to work

2. red flickering light is low water in the header tank and erm somthing else or the sensor is shagged

3. starting a van from cold "set" the choke by pressing the throttle twice.
if this doesn't help then further investigation is nessesary

4.see wiki
