Steering column bush?

Hi, I've just replaced the ignition switch and barrel, when putting it back together I wondered if there should be a bush between the top and half way down the inner colum? In the Haynes his gram it looks like there is a 'support ring' but not quite sure where this goes. By my reckoning its the ignition housing which centres the upper column. See pics

Sadly the old ignition housing snapped near the clamp bolt, I realise its quite brittle alloy and I probably bent it too much, they should be easy to get s/h. Cheers. Getting cold isn't it, I love driving her in snow.

There is no support ring just the silicon seal above your finger (top pic) that supports the bearing to the column which is squeezed up by the plastic tube which goes between the ign switch bearing housing and the steering wheel.

Sorry to ressurrect this but I'm changing my steering lock housing soon and I have a few questions as I have had the old one off
When replacing that plastic bush shown above and the steering lock how are they best fitted?
Is it best to fit the bush into the back of the bearing and then push it all onto the column?
Or is it best to fit the bush into the column then push the housing down onto it?
Also does the bush actually engage all the way through the bearing? as it seems to be slightly tapered with ridges on it.
I ask because there is only so much force you can push down on the column as it pushes out of the two rubber bushes on the area thats designed to split the column in half in an accident.
lastly do I need to drill the ignition barrel out of the old housing??? As I have seen something in the wiki about it. Unless that course of action is only when you have lost your key??

All parts assemble with no force. Fit the silicon seal/spacer fit the switch housing then the spacer between the wheel and bearing housing. All should be a push fit with a smear of grease.
