Just a quick one for now................famous last words!

Just filled up the washer bottle in the n/s footwell, after putting about a pint in I heard it running on to the drive. Had a look underneath - not much to see, thus, my question is this; does the bottle have an external 'overflow' pipe to prevent it running into the cab? Cheers.

I have owned 3 T25's over a 10 year period, still own 2 of them.









And I don't know the answer to that

Hi. There is a rubber seal that links the filler pipe to the reservoir. It tend to rot and as soon as the reservoir is full the rest leaks out of the seal. You can get replacement seals. Ithink that I got mine from brickwerks.

The bottle is full

Basically where you put the fluid is a solid pipe that goes to the opening of the bottle. The opening has a rubber seal on it that the filler pipe pushes into. Over time this seal will soften and degrade thus instead of the bottle filling right up to the neck of the pipe and flooding your passenger footwell it spills onto the road, which is far better.

Now IF you want to fix it you will need to remove the bottle which is held on with 3 bolts and 3 captive nuts (viewtopic.php?f=38&t=111715) and they WILL be rusted solid. 2 of the bolts will come off because the body of the van is slotted where the captive nut fits but the 3rd won't as it's a blond hole. it is one of the occassions when then bolt head snapping is a good thing. One the bottle is off, you've removed the pump and you've dried yourself off after being covered in fluid you can hacksaw the captive nuts and bolts off, fit a new seal if you can find one (I recenly bought the last one from VW and Heritage are out of stock http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_NCA ... tartRow=14 ) and then refit using the 3 captive nuts you can buy from Lloydy (in the link earlier) and 3x 6mm bolts you aquire from somewhere.

It's a lot of faffing for nothing though

It's not exactly easy to see the fluid level.

That reminds me of a sketch in Fawlty Towers where the American is complaining about the motorway not being wide enough.

You can hear the fluid coming up the spout even if you can't see it; easy to see if you add screenwash as it 'foams' slightly as you fill it

Is your bottle a standard one without the fancy headlight washers (E D I T: they are held with 4 bolts)? I suspect one of the mountings has fallen off/been removed and the bottle was designed to be fitted with 3 bolts

Well that's comprehensive for just about anyone!!! Thanks a million. For the time being it will have to continue to perish as there are bigger fish to fry - just bought a square head light grill off the bay. It was the 'mint' looking one from Hills salvage. Just need to get me a couple of Maestro headlights and away I go..............In my opinion, they are by far and wide the most pleasing of headlamp arrangements, but then I would say that !!!! Thanks again.

I'm pretty sure there's only two; there's no 'lug' on the bottle I've noticed for a third. Might be wrong though, but I'm certainly not having another look since I've been under there twice in two weeks refitting it with new 'snap nut' thingies.

I only recall seeing 2 bolts as well Bren so it's not just you.

ahh......hmmmm.......I have one either side, not two next to each other. Maybe the bottle changed over the years?

Anyway, I'm not fetching the bugger off again now, it ain't going anywhere.....

Right, cr@ppy pictures but only two 'lugs' for fixings. Obviously different vans can have different bottles. You can see the slot in the body member where the third fixing would have gone if I had one.
