Hi,
I did mine with Vim. Cleaned it up a treat, then some polish it looks like new.

Won't Vim scratch tiny grooves into the gelcoat (the surface coat, I think that's what it's called).
An apprentice cleaned the gaffer's Daimler with Vim back in the seventies - looked great while it was still wet

Tesco value cream cleaner, less scratchy than Vim and has small amount of bleach to kill of the algae, mine gets done twice a year when I can be bothered to get the steps out and don't mind getting wet

Hi,
I have cleaned mine with Vim twice now and hear what you say about scratching. I did mine a second time because after the first 'go' I left cleaning and polishing too long so traffic grime/birds etc etc built up and I had to re-do it. There does not appear to be any damage even in bright sunlight.
Maybe a less abrasive cream would be better but Vim shifts the muck quickly.
If I keep it clean, and polished, I won't have to re-Vim it.

Surely it depends on whether the hightop is still in bare gelcoat, or whether it's been painted at some point in the past?

Even if it had been painted I'd not use a scouring creme....well, certainly not the domestic variety.
T-Cut would be better for a 'one off' application for really difficult to shift stains, or Autoglym Resin Polish (although that might be too gentle in this case)
