I have had what I think is quite a good idea....
I want to move my stereo head unit to the left in the dash. I think I want to fill the existing hole with a 12V multi socket cigarette lighter affair.

The thing is.... I am not sure if you can buy one that fits the same size hole as a head unit. Anyone have any clues??

It wouldnt be hard to make one mate. You can buy DIN size blanking plates (DIN is the standard stereo size), a couple of ciggy lighters (or more) and even switches if you felt upto it and its done

That was the other way I was thinking of going. I can get a 3-way (fanar fanar!) adaptor, with a usb socket too for pennies. These are slightly smaller than a single DIN so I could mount one.
Problem is.... I am a helicopter engineer by trade, so I sometimes have difficulty with motivating myself to bring work home with me!

Keep your eye out... I'll have a look into it this weekend and see what I can come up with!

I love working on mine - but used to hate working on my own motors (I was a mechanic at the time lol).
You can get a slimline usb ciggy lighter from poundworld and poundland (though there very expensive at......£1) - then you cna have 3 ciggy lighters (possibly 4) and then plug the USB in when you want it - personally, if it was me, id put two sockets and a ammeter

leave the stereo in the middle and put the 12v sockets on the left, its a pain to reach over to change the station or turn it up!

Remote mate - then you can use the headunit when your in the back

The head unit I am fitting has a remote so that's a reason I was thinking of moving it. Unfortunately, it is now a job that will have to wait until next weekend!

all ready have the remote, but if you mount the stereo over to the left , then you wont be able to operate it from the back as the seat blocks the remote!!!!
