Saab 93 seats

Hi all
Ive been offered some very nice leather Saab 93 seats for my van, to replace the worn panel van brown ones I have. Have read WIKI and have searched posts. But can anyone give me a few pointers. Are these the ones to go for? Id probably have a go at fitting them myself. Not sure though with all the talk of 'space behind seats' and seat hieght/knees into steering wheel' etc.....
Also, those people that HAVE got them fitted, if I adjest the slider rails of the actual seat, to fit the existing T25 sliders, that means the seat remain adjustable right? So why would someone remove the runners from their vans seat box completely and then bolt the seat straight to the box? Surely then it can never be adjusted?
Lastly - leather? Good option or will they really be too hot in summer?
Lots of questions I know, but dont want to regret this move!
Cheers all
FW

Watching for replies :wink:

My mate has a Saab 900 that he thinks he is going to get MOT'd, I know he has no hope as the car is fubar'd and he is skint. When he gives up I will offer him £20 for the seats and I know he will accept :wink:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aside = he scrapped one about 6 years ago. I towed him to the breakers (his gearbox was bust = Saab !). On the way back he said "It's a shame that, I only bought a new battery for it a month ago" It hadn't occurred to him to take it off :shock:
The main problem with the Saab seat is to keep the back & forward adjustment you have to use both halves of the Saab's rails and bolt them on top of the VW rail on the seat box. I got a set of Saab seats that were being taken out of a T25 for 0.99p on e-bay. When I offered them up in the van the seat height was about 3 inches higher than standard. It might not sound a lot but it put my knees up against the steering wheel. Making the Saab rails on the seat fit the VW rails on the seat box looked impossible so I gave up. I think people cut the VW rails out completely to try to lower the seats as much as possible, and maybe to secure the seats a bit more safely.
I ended up getting a cheap pair of captains seats in the end, and the Saab seats are used as garage furniture.
Fitted a set in mine and was a pain in the a***. I had to cut the height adjustment off the Saab seats then made a separate sub frame for the runners off my old vein seats. I have full forward and back adjustment plus seat back and lumber support adjustment . Wasn't a simple job though.
And I suppose then, if one was using a swivel base (2" tall in itself) that would make it even worse :shock:
Mind you, you don't really need the passenger seat to move about, just set it mid way ?
And there was only one driver (me) then the drivers seat could be "fixed" (so able to remove the runners on both seats) ?
Was just about to cancel this post as the above seemed a bit daft perhaps.... :roll:
Don't know what model mine are from but I kept the van rails and borrowed my t25 seat runners and made them fit the Saab seats, also cut the height down as low as we could get them.
They now fit in as per original seats will go out and measure floor to seat base in a mo.
17 inches floor to base of seat then 6 inch to massive steering wheel!
fitted electric saab seats to my van,they were out of 'griffin',whatever that was,the passenger seat was easy to fit to the autosleeper swivel base,the driver seat was a bit more tricky but made brackets up,removed the 'top' of the vw seat runner leaving the part that is welded to the seat box,I slid nuts down the welded on part,bolt through the saab seat base,tightened up and that was the inner one done(by the handbrake),similar thing to the outer side with metal plates linking the nuts slid down the welded on part to bolt the 'plate' on and drilled holes in the plate to line up with the outer saab seat runner and bolted up.reading this probably makes it sound cockeyed can maybe take some photo's if any help,seats work electrically up/down/forward/backward,have not worked out the heating and cooling yet :? :? :?,I am about 5' 7" tall and my feet reach the floor comfortably and are 2" or 3" below the steering wheel,well happy with them
I ran mine with saab 9000 seats for about 3 years (I did the wiki guide) but I removed them for a set of early captains as they were too high and I got fed up of them
They are sounding less and less like a good idea at the moment! I missed out on a pair of original captains seats on t'interweb, when the price skyrocketed to 400 quid! Oh well, will keep looking.....
One other plus with the captains seat is I can slide the passenger one off the rails, flip it around, and slide it back on facing into the "kitchen". I've done it so often now it only takes a few seconds, as long as I remember to put the seat-back in the upright position first. I bought my pair for £90 minus an armrest.
Didn't someone post up how to make a pair of T4 seats fit a while back? From what I remember it was just a case of trimming the rails on the seat with an angle grinder and they slid straight in. T4 seats might be easier to source and cheaper.
Good thought, thanks. Makes sense that another VAG product would be easier? Will await someone to confirm/advise..... Cheers
They do appear. I wasn't actively looking for some but I posted something on the yard about how I'd eventually like some and a kind member contacted me with a very very tidy pair of early captains for £120 (as he knew I was genuine and they wouldn't appear on the bay of fleas for £200 more)...I even managed to get them expressed from the midlands
