Need help and advice?

Currently have thread running with engine top end rebuild. Anyway all ancillary items are being fitted and have come across a problem.

During strip down when turning engine on stand the fuel pump pushrod and a spring fell out? Assumed the spring was for the distributor pre load? Bagged them up for future refitting.

Now come to fit distributor and find pre load spring is in position? What is this spring then? Anyone any ideas?


Offending spring. Approx 6mm dia x 15mm long.

Hoping it is maybe off acelerator cable etc and fell onto block when taking engine out?

Not a carb screw spring ?

Not touched the carb yet apart from disconnecting the cable?

Checked through haynes and parts manuals to see if I can find something similar.

Only thing that looks anything like a possible is spring near to accelerator pump in picture 12.7 in haynes manual?

Going to clean down carb today so will have a look.

I think spring is from the top of the distributor drive it sits in the depression in the middle of the drive between drive and disi base, basically it applies a little pressure on the drive to keep it in line and running against it's thrust washers

I dont think this is the dizzy pre load spring..

Too spindly.

I've got a new one in stock, just arrived, so I'll look.

The dizzy spring never removed so still in position. It is longer and has more uniform coil. This spring must have just been laid in the gunge on block from previous work?

No, that is not dizzy spring, just looked.

Maybe little spring on throttle arm, to damp throttle cable stop.
