I've just tried to open ETKA but it says "Import updates, Brand VW has expired and is not available", but when I press update, it says "no updates"?...any one else had this problem?. It's a long time since I have tried to open it though, maybe there lies the problem??

If it's the same as the demonstration ETOS disc then it is time limited and when installed it leaves a marker in windows registry.

The work around with ETOS is if it stops working uninstall it then do a file search (explorer alt f3) for any files etos*.* and then delete those files otherwise it won't reinstall

then set the date on the computer to say 2020, install the programme, run it once, and then reset the clock to normal, and it will work till July 2020, which is probably longer than the computer will

ETOS is a nicer interface plus live price what's not to like, £3.50 cd inc post paypal info AT aidantalbot.com

The various ETKA discs out there have been cracked out of the official system releases and may be incompatible with each other, I have ETKA 6 on one computer and even if I uninstall it and delete all the files I can find and then install ETKA 7 I end up with ETKA6 again, I had the same problem on an old computer that had ETKA5 on.
I have 2 versions of ETKA7 on dvd came from different sources, the one I bought and installed isn't updateable but isn't time limited so I have that on the laptop for the ATP function only really, otherwise I use ETOS.
I no longer know which dvd is which though and I have never installed the second disc myself so don't know what it's like
I can't readily copy dvd's- laptop does it but it's very slow and clunky, the pc's dvd unit failed and I've not bothered to replace it as I don't use DVDs much, but if someone has a good burner I can lend them the discs

in a perfect world etos would also have classicparts price info on it as well

Go to the programme folder and I think you'll find another .exe for updating.

Mine is C/ETKA/PROG/OnlineUpd_int

Click that, another programme will open and start downloading the update files.

Does anyone else know what this is all about, or is it just me?

ETOS doesn't do everything that ETKA does but does most of it and nicer interface - I think if you can find the right copy of ETKA with the update facility etc...like Simon has then it's great but a lot of them aren't fully featured
the one I have ETKA 7 build 597 works fine and has some of the additional information and supercession info, but won't update unless you have a genuine VW update disc which are all hardlocked anyway (I know I borrowed them from a VW dealer once  ), it won't update online or get the prices - but as I say all I use ETKA for generally is looking up gearbox and engine codes and using the ATP function

I use ETOS and it infuriates me when I have to uninstall and re-install every few months. Thanks for the date tip :ok

At last I got round to this, uninstalled, reset the date, reinstalled ETKA 7.3 2012 and it won't update at all now??. Actually while writing this I'm thinking should I have rebooted BEFORE reinstalling ETKA while the date was changed? (was a little concerned about that in case I lost the antivirus program)

Also had a look on E bay to see if I could get a more recent copy of ETKA and I cannot find it? Wondering if someone somewhere has pulled the ETKA 7.3 plug??

Would be a pity as we try and keep 20+ year old vehicles going which must be a show case for VW you would think?

Aiden, can I get a copy of ETKA or similar off you?

I'll be fitting ANOTHER AAZ shortly and might make sense in asking if you can look at the gear box as it's jumping out of reverse when running backwards down a hill, Clive might remember the loud CLUNK last year during a "failed assent" excersise, raised some eyebrows, including mine. it was suppose to have been fully overhauled when I bought it, but then so was the engine and that died last year!

Many Thanks

I've ETOS and ETKA 5, 6 or 7, last one is DVD and I've no reliable DVD burning ability and my cdr is on it's last legs too it seems, the dvd player has died already in the old pc, seems to be the way of things, just like cassette players always died back in the day

ETKA 7.0 Update 597, and ETOS 3.1.14 both running reliably here FWIW. The only updates I've done are downloaded ETOS pricelist updates, otherwise I've left them well alone.
