Ive looked about for a replacment main mcb rcd for my 91 Westy California but can't seem to find a supplier.
Anybody know of one ???

These protective devices are really more of a house wiring item than a vehicle spare, so you could take your old unit along to your friendly local Electrical Wholesaler who will probably have a replacement in stock. They are pretty much all interchangeable as most now have a standard dimensional system (DIN rail), so it doesn't really matter which manufacturer you end up with, as long as the rating is the same.

I use City Electrical Factors in Launceston, but they may have a branch nearer to you.

I have a dark and distant memory of this cropping up years ago and IIRC the one fitted to westys isn't 'standard' although it certainly looks like it is from the front.

No it's not standard it's a panel type breaker.
I could fit standard rcd in front of the existing one but I would prefer to exchange the stock part.

Does it not have a German equivalent to a BS number on it?

It'll probably have an EN number (or a predecessor of EN) on it but that is to demonstrate conformity to electrical performance criteria rather than the physical breaker design/configuration. BS EN61008 and BS EN61009 are the modern british 'EN' numbers for RCCB's and RCBO's (RCD is the generic term for all the different types).

It would give you a staring point rather than working with nothing. If you ar looking for a BS EN 60898 then it would help you find the correct one even though there are many different types.


Just been looking and they use all the same brands as us anyway.

60898's are mcbs not RCDs; besides, I've trawled through bins full of different manufacturers 6 amp BS EN60898 type B mcbs and still not found one that'll fit a certain board before. As I said it confirms electrical performance, not what it will fit.
We already know it'll be a general purpose 30mA RCD of at least 16A rating, whether it's an RCCB or RCBO is the only other consideration and if westys are fitted with separate mcbs even that distinction becomes irrelevant.

I suppose the best option would be to try and track down the old thread where this question arose before but I know it was several years ago and I doubt it still exists.

It may be in the archive - trouble is you are searching for three letters which the search engine doesn't like so you will have to trawl through manually!

NinjaTurtle007 retro fitted one with some adjustments with a mcb blanking plate. Perhaps drop him a PM?

Don't know if that's correct or not, 10mA seems needlessly low - first I've heard of it
