Factory rev counter erratic movement

Hi all my rev counter recently started playing up and is bouncing about all over the place (usually sits ok at idle revs but as soon as revs pick up it bounces up and down). I am assuming it will be a dash out job? Does anyone know how to fix this problem or know of any links to a fix as I have searched but cant seem to find anything.
Cheers Chris

I've heard of this symptom before and the cause wasn't at the dash end. Hang about and I'll see if I can dig up the thread....

Actually, not quite the same symptom but might still be valid suggestions in there. See what you think...

and you could always PM 'jim potter' and ask if he cured it

Mmm very interesting as Im having problems with my bus starting to lose power at about 50mph and then backfiring unless I let off the gas and then it sorts itself out so maybe they are connected. I have changed the coil but am going to get a new ignition amplifier. Mind you I have had the power problem longer than the rev counter problem. Il pm him later I think.
Thanks for your help.
