I'm in the process of replacing most of the oil seals on my T25 1981 air cooled 2.0l. I have got a certain distance towards accessing the small crank shaft oil seal, but have got stuck at the point pictured on the link below

basically, i don't know how to get the fan hub off to access the oil seal. any help anyone?
update; i have now removed the spacer, but I'm still stuck on how to remove the fan hub to get the oil seal out and replace it.

You're nearly there.
From the pic it looks like the center nut and big thick washer have been removed so the only thing holding the fan bracket on is the fact that its on tight to the crank. Try screwing the fan back on with the three screws then pull and wiggle it like mad. the housing is located on a wood-ruff key.
Good luck.

Get a 3mm or so steel plate about 100/125mm across, and cut a big notch in it such that it will fit around the fan hub, put three suitable bolts into the hub and screw each in evenly a little at a time such that they push the hub off off the end of the crank.

Hi All,
I think I may have a leak from this oil seal (1982 2 litre Devon), is it possible to replace it with the engine in??
I have been looking at it, and it looks like it may be possible if you can get the fan out of the way.
All input welcome
Thanks

I'm not sure; Ive dropped mine out, but I needed to replace the big seal at the front end too, so I had to. I imagine it would be possible but very very fiddly.

success! in the end i used some old metal shelf brackets wedged in between the fan hub and the block, put the bolts back in and tightened them up until the fan hub just popped off. Thanks for the advice!
The engine is covered in oil. what would be the best way to clean it up, and should I think about painting it once it's clean.....what with?

clean it with "gunk"
paint the block with smoothrite or any enamel type paint
