Seized Heat Blower

My heater blower has seized up. I remember reading an article somewhere on how to get to it and get it working again. I have looked through the Wiki but can't find it. Does anyone know where it might be and do you know if new blowers are available

Brickwerks have them in stock. Just search on 'heater fan'.Somebody else will advise how to replace. Good luck.

There are a couple of threads on this subject in the 'Electrical' section. They also lead on to older threads with lots of useful photos. Don't buy a new one until you've at least tried to free it off. It seems in most cases, they can be saved with a squirt of WD40, but it's a big job getting at them.

^^^^^^^ temporary fix^^^^^^^^ ultimately most will need to be replaced together with a new switch and spade terminal repairs.

The link being refered to shows how a small hole can be drilled to access the fan motor. However, only one side of the bearing is lubricated and WD40 is only going to offer a short term solution. (use spray grease) if you must.

Have to agree. Its not just a case of un-seizing it. By the time the motor has done this, it will tend to draw massive amps starting up from then on. I know because mine is like that right now with a whopping 75amp fuse in it just to start it off!! The draw diminshes after a second or two but anything less than 75amp and fuse blows immediately. Its being replaced in the spring. New motor is only solution for a fan that is, lets face it, close to 30 years old....

And no, I'm not recommending a 75amp fuse to ANYONE.

The suffering will come from skinned knuckles, sliced digits on razor pressed sheet metal and blindness and frostbite caused by the lack of daylight and low temperatures..... Enjoy
