Hi all this is my first post on here, shame it's wanting help lol.Ive just bought a t3 tin top as a bit of a project
It's a c reg minibus conversion by the look of it and the body work is in really good nick the reason it's a project is that it's a non runner
It's got a 1.6TD in it but some monkey has snapped the threads of the head that the injector screws into and I don't think it's worth fixing plus it's got 173000 on the clock and no service record.
So I'm wondering what engine to fit the 1y sounds like the best plan as I'm wanting to keep it diesel but is there a aaz coded engine as well I'm not sure also can the 1.9TD be fitted or the 1y turbo'd.Not really sure what to do for the best as im pretty clueless on the engine codes Plus what years were they in production ie mk3 golf etc ant help would be ace.
Cheers

There's a pretty comprehensive rundown of what fits (easily and not so easily) on the Wiki page on this site, so have a read of that to get an overview.

The most straightforward replacement, given that you already have a diesel, would be the AAZ engine. With a couple of swaps of ancillaries from your 1.6TD, it pretty much drops straight in. It doesn't give much pf a performance hike over what you've got - for that you'd have to go TDI. Again, the source engines for this, and much other info besides, is on the aforementioned Wiki.

... meant to add: what is it that's actually wrong with the 1.6? From your post I gather that one of the injectors has snapped in the head? That shouldn't necessarily be a terminal fault. Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply dekhelia,I've got a plan together,I'm going for a 1y head and block and swapping the pump, sump, turo etc of the jx onto it for now until I get the bus on the road then Tdi power here I come lol.
The guy I got it from said a garage did a compression test on it and advised him he needed a new motor as he was not a mechanic he took there word for it and took the bus away as he couldn't afford to have the work done.£2000 was the quote. So I bought it as a none runner as its in really good nick but after having a look at it all the garage have done is tried to remove no 1 injector and snapped the actual threads of the head the rest haven't been touched so feck knows how the did a comp test on it!
