Just for you guys with KPH speedo's..
http://www.conrad-uk.com/ce/en/product/ ... 55,3DFU1,1
There was another one on the market a few years ago that i recall red-westie Martin had - however, when i looked into it two years ago they werent available and if they were they were expensive.
This isnt cheap - and i don't know how it performs between day and night (too bright in the night or it senses it and dims accordingly?) but i thought i would post this as its quite a find.
I do not need one for my westy now, as i have got a "Road Angel" which displays my speed and integrated it into the dash. This a really cheap solution (£22 on ebay i paid plus £5ish for a GPS antenna) if you are just after an accurate MPH reading and not too bothered about it being HUD.
HUD is rather cool though!

Ayup mate.....yes mine is still going strong ( GlobalTop HG 100 HUD) and still one of the best bits of kit I've bought.
It was a shame that they had such a short production life and I'm very pleased to see a big manufacturer like Valeo taking up the idea.
Obviously our mechanically driven speedo's aren't accurate at the best of times but given many owners are running non standard wheel/tyre combinations this innacuracy could be even worse.
These GPS headsup display speedo's give 100% accuracy and whilst I agree your Tom Tom or Garmin with be equally as accurate, their display is predominately displaying road info with a typically small MPH readout.
The convenience and ease of use of a large & dedicated reflected speedometer display is especially useful if you are using a non standard steering wheel (like I am) which restricts the normal speedo view.
At over £70.00 posted it isn't cheap but in my opinion, definately a very useful bit of kit.

And arguably a better idea than radical dash mods that can be hard to put right again afterwards. I like the HUD route too - keeps your eyes on the road.

Have to admit, I can't see the problem with using a KPH speedo in a UK daily driver. It's not exactly a difficult bit of mental arithmetic or simple memory, and a lot less intrusive and distracting than having to refer to another device, and then being left "helpless" if you're outside GPS coverage due to trees or buildings.
30=20
50=30 (helped by a big red mark)
65=40
80=50
100=60
Frederick - if your speedo bounces, replace the cable. It's not a big job.

Just a pun but honestly, don't knock it unless you've tried it!
My HUD is neither intrusive or distracting, infact I would argue that using it is actually safer than taking my eyes off the road to look down into the speedo binnacle.
As for loosing signal, trees and buildings are not an issue...the only time the signal does fail is in a tunnel and fortunately speed camera's in tunnels are very rare, infact tunnels are rare around our way full stop.
And yes I used to have a KMPH speedo and changed it because my brain obviously wasn't as good at converting speeds as Adrians.
I would also point out, my device can swap between MPH and KMPH at a push of a button, great when driving abroad and also shows north/east/south & west, again very useful at preventing the driver entering the correct road but in the wrong direction lol.

Second here for the HUD on yer phone - I've got mine on iphone - which in the day sits in the apature for the speedo and shows you how inaccurate the old thing is especially above the prescribed limit

and at night just pop it on the top of the dash and Boom - look all night rider
One called Speedometer HUD and another called My HUD - speedometer both free

Ditto, I use those too. Ideally needs a cutdown iphone shell stuck to dash pod top. That way you can clip it in when required. Does work extremely well I have to say.

All good stuff dudes. I didn't get on with using my phone because I'm not the only person to use my van (the wife) and I use if for other stuff. I wanted a permanent solution.
Heads up Display is v cool though

The video is quite funny
Anyway - made a custom rubber bumper thing for the dash - just drops into place

Meh - like the wife needs to know how fast she is actually going....
Surprised if most people can actually make them exceed the speed limit
