Front diff oil?

Can't believe how difficult it is to buy some tools and consumables nowadays. I live in a big city with lots of tool and motor factor shops. You'd think it not too difficult to buy oil and hex bits would you? Had to order the 17mm hex bit off fleabay because after 2 hours of visiting shops I lost the will to live. Doofus staff or no bliddy stock. What is the world coming to? effing recession.
And before some clever clogs ask why I'm putting oil in a VW T25 gearbox - its because both are leaking. So there!
Rant over...
After three shops I've now got just 1L of Comma SX75W-90. I know this is good for rear box, but can I use it for front box as well?

Gl4 for the gearbox, gl5 for the front diff.

But technically the front diff is the same as the back....with less other stuff in there...so why does it need a gl5 rated oil?
Also the vw manual states gl 4 80w for both ends....but maybe a gl5 in the front could offer more protection...from something...?

A 17mm bolt. And a couple of nuts is a lot cheaper than a Hex bit.

Something about selector forks corroding with the GL5 ..... no selector forks in the front diff so you can use it there but not in the box. GL 4 is ok either end.

Think it's the brass bits on the synchromesh's that degrades.
The selector forks are bits of steel, wouldn't think there's any trouble with those.
Sure Aidan said something to me not long ago about some newer GL5 oils being spec'd for older boxes with brass in them. Best check with oil manufacturers first though

but as none of the boxes were ever meant to have gl5 in anyway...why put it in?!
