Gti conversion, input shaft????????????

Hi can someone out there clear up a grey area for me as im getting conflicting info regarding my gti conversion, so on the gearbox side of the conversion do i NEED a diesel input shaft or can i shorten the original one in my 5spd box and if so how much do i need to remove?
Any help with this would be greatly appericiated.
1986 caravelle 1.9dg wbx 5spd.

I have diesel input shaft....from a jx if you need one.

either diesel or can shortern original. either way works.

IIRC its 13mm chap.
The shafts are identical in every way except the petrol has a longer nose after the clutch splines, on the smooth surface.
