Good evening all ,i cant open the sliding door or the back door or the passenger door.When i turn the key its like a strong spring,and the door latch goes up but doesnt click into the open position, the doors will open if i hold the key in in the open position ie turn and hold ,any ideas any little tricks its a 1989 caravelle with central locking that works intermitantly.

wind a window down,and with all the doors etc locked reach in and lift one of the buttons up , does it feel like its trying to be pulled down as you do this? now go to the other cab door and repeat, if it unlocks without resistance then its the one offering resistance that is sticking, so you would need to remove the door card and locate source,try disconnecting the servo motor as this will take this lock out of the equasion , you may have to repeat with the others sorry cant be more specific without being hands on it , i had simmilar with the xrissvagon when i put that back together,but it was a while ago so forgive my lack of memory

Ive tried that and the passenger door resisted the sliding door resisted and the back door has no way to try .Thanks,
im not looking forward to taking door cards off i usually make a balls putting them back on im hoping they will reset themselfs tomorrow.some times a good dose of rain sorts everything out.

ok so when the drivers is open ,what is the state of the button on the passengers, and when you lock/unlock what happens to the passenger side

Passenger side is locked ,when i turn the key it turns as if it was opening but wit a lot of resistence if i pull the latch from inside it pulls up if i let it go it slings back ,

yes but what does the passenger side do when you either use the key on the drivers side or lift the button on the drivers side

Nothing it stays locked

i should know the answer but it eludes me, i will try have a look in my files cos im sure i made a note of it, if any lurkers know can they shout out

Go on metal micky run out there and check your files or have a look here http://www.samba.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they might be able to find them

I had a similar problem to that, ended up being a broken wire in the door shut. It's also worth stripping down the actuators and checking the condition of the contacts, springs etc. and giving them a bit of lubrication.
