38mm or 50mm waffle boards??

What's the general feeling about these please? They seem to come in these two thicknesses. Is the extra thickness (and therefore weight) justified for a Syncro?
Thanks,
Pete

most of us are using the 38mm because that's what Doug was able to pick up cheap preloved and cut sections and then cut up into lengths, you can't bridge as such with them but mostly they get used as hole fillers and because of the shape of the offcuts that Doug got we ended up with a mix of sizes, widths and lengths, the shorter lengths are often more useful than the 1m+ lengths, 10" square one for jacking/axle stands, levelling chocks , grip mats etc...versatilty is the name of the game and what we got from Doug have proved their worth many times
when full of mud they weigh a ton the big 50mm ones if full of clay mud take two to lift - Al's got a couple of 50mm

i think the 50mm ones are a fair bit stronger but they are bloody heavy. worth it for bridging if your on your own. if in a convoy where you can double up and share then i`d go for 38`s.

Thanks Aidan and Lee. There's some 38s on Fleabay at the moment so I think I'll give them a try.

Paul and I had a sphincter tightening moment in Eire when we bridged a substantial ditch with my 1200mmx38mm yellow waffles. Waffles were JUST long enough. His Sika went over just fine, but my heavier camper had the boards making fearsome cracking noises as they flexed considerably. There's some video footage knocking around somewhere. Since then I use them doubled-up when gaps are more than 500mm. Having 2 thinner ones offers more options than one thick one. Ooh matron!
