Just been scouting around for seam sealer. Spoiled for choice so please do advise.

Tiger seal, Wurth PU sealer, Sikaflex EBT, Sikaflex 221 or other sika variants, or others found on fleabay? What's it to be, has anyone any preferences or should I think less and do more??????? Thanks in advance.

Like I stated, 'bubbly seams'. I'm about to clean out the panel joints on the outside of my van before treating with Dinitrol tv 900. I'd,just like to know what is best for running into the joints before painting with Rust-oleum. Cheers.

like i said there's bubbly seams and oh never mind , do as you suggest and brush your product of choice over it

You should listen to MM. There is nothing the dude doesn't know about bubbly seams.

If it's too much effort to upload a couple of photos for him to offer his expert advice, you'll be posting a similar request within a year.

A year or a lot less, pics help us to assess what you got to do and how bad it is. You also need to treat the seams from inside the van as well otherwise the rust will be back through. Blasting into the seams is advisable as well if you have access to a compressor and blasting gun.

Evening all, apologies for the lack of response but whilst working away in the sticks, I don't have the good fortune of mobile reception let alone Wifi connection to communicate with the outside world!!!!! I shall endeavour to put up a few pics in the next few days so that others can view the said seams. I will be blasting them as full farm workshop facilities are at my disposal. I just need to invest in some smaller wire feed rollers for my mig as it's currently set up for 1.0mm, a touch too THICK for tinwork!

I'm looking forward to drawing upon the marque specific opinions of all on here to ease the process of 'doing up' my van. I adore that term as it's so open ended in that no mention of detail or budget is specified. In fact I started 'doing it up' the other day, ie. my 8 and 3 year old boys washed the lower half of it .


Look out for a few other posts i'll be putting up due to me being home for the run up to christmas which means that tha world wide web and associated car/bike/truck porn is there for the picking. Cheers.

My panel van has some seam rust, although it doesn't appear to be at an advanced stage. It is in most of the lower panels.

I bought the van 14 months ago. The then owner had done a fairly crude paint job and had wire-brushed the seams. He showed me before/after photos so I have no suspicions that there is a hidden horror story.

Everything thing else is good and I am confident it is a sound van.

I have had a quote to do a full lower panel replacement and respray which was £3000.

Can anyone advise whether this process can be staged? Would it make any sense to get the panels replaced and do the big paint job at a later date?

At the present rate of decay, I reckon I could do nothing for 2 -3 years without causing problems.
