I live in flats and can't run an extension lead to the van for charging. Removing the leisure battery from a westy is a PITA so was thinking about using 2 or 3 22ah batteries from Tanya that are small enough to remove without taking the seat out each time to charge in my flat. Has anyone used them? I'm wondering how well they perform, my power requirements are quite low, just lights and usb charging.

I have lasted a full weekend on a 12AH mobility scooter battery for driving a flourescent tube light and phone charging. Not had to revert to the second battery that I carry.
As always, the length of service you get from them will be dependent on the amount that you use them. I do not have water pumps, or similar drains on the power so just used for lighting.

yes I have used golf cart batteries, but they do need the proper charger otherwise they will not charge fully or get too much power and the plates buckle.
And yes they last well as they are traction batteries.
Lucas golf are the very good quality, sealed so you can use at any angle.

I was looking at the Lucas batteries and Numax charger on the Tayna site. They look they'll do the trick and I might be able to get 2 in the battery box without removing the seat.

Just stick a solar panel on the roof - no need to do anything then.

I'll look into that, the only concerns I have are shiny things tend to get knicked in Leytonstone. And the family of foxes that live in our gardens have a habit of skipping about on my vans roof

If not already done have a look at changing to LED lighting....significantly lower power consumption than fluorescent or incandescent. IKEA do lots that have 12v DC transformers on them so when you snip off the transformer they can go straight onto your leisure circuit.

I thought that, but it really isn't. Just swivel the seat 45deg, so that it's pointing towards the open door. Then remove the little plastic slip from one runner. Then just slide all the way forward and out. Quicker to do than describe.

Thanks Adrian, I it is a simple process, but it can be a PITA in a car park with little space either side of the van. I'm looking for a simple solution so I don't have to take the seat out.
