Have a clunk when pushing top and bottom of steering wheel.
Can clearly see the column moving in the tube so must be the column bushes.
Has anyone replaced these before, and know how many bits I have to get/where from, ect?

Cheers rob.

Nah, went through all that, it's the bush/ bearings that hold the column into the securing tube where it attaches to the dash.

Yeah not sure if its the top/ bottom or both....
Just found this on JK's, which is the bottom bush. The parts don't seem too expensive from VW, it's just that every time I do a job like this, I buy five parts and only need one of them, thats why I was hoping someone had repaired the same problem.
I can definitely see the shaft/column moving at the bottom of the tube.

I might just have to buy the full kit from VW it's no more than about £15 as long as the ignition housing isn't a part that's needed.

Here's a diagram from vagcat think it might be number 5 you need, part number 171419341, it's only about a quid.
Think ill get one of them too its the bottom that seems to have more parts, I just don't want to dismantle it all without the parts there.

The bearing in j10937 is where I can see movement which you can see when you take the wheel off. I don't know if you can get the bearing on its own would be easy to push in when j10937 is removed.

#5. Support ring. 171 419 341. 1.1€
#15 securing arm. 251 419 545 .20€
#15a snap ring. N 901 260 01 .40€
#19 Bearing bush 251 419 579b. 3.4€
#20 tolerance ring 251 419 589 1.2€
#21 angular ball bearing 211 415 585b 5.85€

These are prices from vagcat and probably dated.
12.15€ for the lot so think ill give Cord Wallis a ring tommorow, and get updated prices.

I see what you mean, it does look like its incorporated in the housing, might not be though.
vagcat is quoting €22.85 for the ignition housing.
I don't like buying from JK's as most of there stuff wears out quick, and that's if it even fits properly. Sadly can't see it on Brickwerks.
Will find a price from Cord wallis for it. Part number is 155905851.

Nic are you sure it's coming from the top?
Mine sounded like it was coming from the top until I removed the lower cowling, I could then see the movement was at the bottom of the tube,( mine could be the top too though), It's only two screws to remove the cowling, might be worth taking a look.

No I can see the movement in the bearing with the wheel removed you can woble it with your finger and thumb.
I have electronic power steering but the top of the column is the same as standard T25.
