I've seen a couple of Komet conversions around recently, they look a really nice conversion. The rock n roll bed seems set further back, giving a smaller boot but larger living area. The cupboards are only "half width" towards the rear so the rock n roll bed is wider than normal. I suppose it's the usual compromise between storage and living space in the end though. If my Holdsworth Interior ever needs replacing I might be bugging you Komet owners for some dimensions. Anyway thought I'd do a sort of poll, What's your conversion? and What do you think is the best conversion? I know people need different things from their campers but it would be interesting to see if most people agree.

Home-made copy/combination using a Devon R&R bed,ply,laminate,a 1st Aid Kit and earplugs for the kids.

LPG ...obviously hehehe. OK,sorry,sensible answer .. the one that suits YOU. We all have different aspirations and requirements of our vans,no one conversion ticks all of everyone's boxes. Many will say a Westphalia is best,others an Autohomes ... me,I just pinched the ideas off them and put in what works for us.

I think Westfalia do look the best, hold their value better, and always much sought after - but not enough storage for a bunch of kids I reckon.

Autohomes are okay, but the cupboards aren't very strong, and the sliding doors always come off the runners.

My favourite is the Devon - loads of storage, lovely set up and arrangement, and I particularly like the cooker hood/drying rack thing, and the huge deep cupboard. R&R bed, handy wardrobe for your LPG tank. The Devon side opening pop tops are the largest by area except for a Viking - sleep 3 kids no problems........

Got the Kamper myself and it's a world apart from my last two berth van. If you can, go for a full width rock an roll as it gives you a king size bed to sleep on.

I've got a Komet.

Loads of room , big bed , heating , tons of storage and a cupboard thats made for a T.V.

we got a kamper love it big bed i am 6ft 1" and i sleep easily innit loads of storage and living room aspecially like the overhead cupboards

Bit of an old thread but here goes.

We've got a Karisma, top of the range don't you know!

I'm 6'4" and fit on the bed.

Probably not as good as a westy but all seems pretty solid and even has hot water, not that we've used it.

Ours is a 1985 and has a gas only fridge, has anyone else found this or are most of them 2/3 way jobs? Might have been added later if the original broke I suppose.

Its interesting that so many people think that the Westy's were the best build.

Yes they look good and they do have a good amount of storage but to be honest, I have seen lots of other builds and they are just as good, if not better in many ways than the Westfalia interior.

For starters, how many Westys do you see with a grill.....none....i know its a running joke on my behalf at the moment but really who in their right mind spends yrs perfecting the interior of a campervan and then omits to put a grill in it!!!!

Also the cupboards under the table are very small to accomodate the huge onboard water tank.......and getting to them is a pain because you have to open out the table and it only gets in the way when it is out.

All in all, although I do love my Westy, I do think that people put them on a pedestal and really they are not all they are cracked up to be. The matress is damned hard and uncomfortable, I've sat on much softer beds in other conversions..........

Just my personal opinion........

but, westys are made of wood
the cupboreds shut
nothing flys open going round the spaggetti junction
devons and autohomes are made of weetabix
the cupbored catches are worse than snow on whitsun bank holiday monday

The cupboards in our Karisma don't open of thier own accord but the handles on the cocktail cabinet (you don't get one of those in a Westy) do come off in your hand if you pull too hard.

Off for our first night away in it to Derbyshire on Saturday. minus 3 in the peak district at night! Hope the insulation is actually where the brochure says it is.

The only problem that I had with cupboards opening was the cutlery drawer, a screwdriver and 30seconds sorted that out. The bed is very comfortable and it has a large water tank (not that I use it at the moment!) No complaints from me.

When I typed this originally I referred to a "cocktail cabinet". Last time I looked our bus didn't have a "willie cabinet", maybe it didn't get specified or something. What would a "willie cabinet" look like anyway and what purpose would it serve other than a storage medium for willies and why would any sane person wish to store thier willy in the bus and not on thier person?

Does someone change posts to suit thier evil sense of humour prior to their being put up? If so they must favour Westys over Autohomes.

It's all a plot.

George W. Bush is probably behind it.

I've heard he prefers Winnebago's.

My camper's cupboards never came open, it really depends on how you treat your camper, some have had a hard life and just cannot take the abuse, especially if there are several heavy handed kiddies involved. But as said, cheap chipboard won't last forever.
