Hi.
Just wondered if anyone has ever fitted a set if wheels that have had a band fitted to make them wider. Any ideas whether they are any good.
I have looked on line and like the look of them but not sure what others know about them.
Any advice accepted and appreciated.

I have banded steels on my 77 opel kadett, not on my t3 though.

But what do you want to know?
if it's done correctly there's no risk or anything...
you can go as wide a you can but mind the sliding door ;)

That's really all i wanted to know. Want sure on safety point of view but seems to be ok from what i read.Just fancied something different. Plus cheaper than alloys. Can i go wider at the back than at the front and will that affect the drive/ride.

yep, that's no problem really...
many classic cars have wider rears then fronts because of the look and stance.

but if you good to wide in the back you won't be able to open the sliding door without damage.
8" should still be ok in the back I think. Front doesn't matter really (if not lowered)

Correct, totally legal, what is debatable though in ref to bandeds, is stretching tyres on them
Some rozzers will give you a tug, some wont. I think they try the construction an use law.

They aren't illegal!! What a load of old tosh.
As long as you tell the insurance company, they won't bump the insurance more than a set of alloys

Mine were made by a guy near Gatwick - who makes them properly by machining and machine welding them
He uses them for Banger racing and has dented and bent wheels until they are oval - the banding is always still intact :ok

Anyone who tells you they are dangerous is just Jelous of your wheels :D
I also take my Bus on track days :D

out of interest how wide are the rears on that pickup? and are they the standard t25 steels?
I have a mate who does banding if anyone wants a set? he's based Boston, Lincs way on... I've got a set of 7.5 fronts & 9 rear gti steels for my mk2 scirocco but I've not put them on yet as I'm waiting on an arch roller from the same mate.
I'm considering a set for my t25 but I'm concerned about the sliding door, the ones on that pickup look phat but dont look as if they would foul....
