so in dec 1991 when Beaker was new it would have cost around £16k with no options, but a lot of those options were standard on UK market so it probably cost a lot more, and a Tristar was over £20k

no wonder most of the Tristars didn't get options added so most had poverty spec mirrors and manual windows
I'm so glad the original buyer of Edna ticked the option boxes and paid the extra and took the depreciation hit

how are you working out the exchange rates?
my doka would have been DM 51000 ish and the camper ( in its original incarnation ) DM 48000.
and is there a way to relate that to what they would be in todays money?
a couple of years back i saw a 4motion t5 woth leather seats electric everything etc and it was something like 69000 euros new.
i would suspect that some of the really top spec vans must have been similarly priced back then.
it doesnt seem to mention an extra cab door on the doka. that must have been a pricey extra too.

You must really have wanted a Syncro back in those days. My basic 14" Multivan was dearer than an XJ6 .....

208 is tow hitch.
Most of the bad road packages (schlechtwegepaket) stuff is covered here:
http://www.ig-syncro16.de/wiki/Was_ist_ein_syncro" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Pretty much some of the 16" strengthening on the chassis, CV joint protection, the gear linkage tube, other (stiffer) dampers.

re old exchange rates I used this site
http://www.oanda.com/currency/historical-rates/ which gave me average 0.371:1 DM :£ for Dec 1991, so below the peak of 4DM to the £, obviously by then the affects of unification was bringing down the DM and the world was in recession hence no Tristars being sold into the UK after 1990 they were just too expensive/underpowered compared with a Rangerover and the vans were at least 1/3 more than a transhit

Don't think it was an option, other than ona Tristar, was it? But then almost everything could be specified, if you don't ask, don't get i suppose.

Have seen Swedish Dokas with 4 doors Petes yellow one, the one that got away, was one of them. That price list only covers the German market so wouldn't list a lot of things and also no Westy stuff in fact I think westys were actually sold through Westfalia as opposed to VW at least that's the impression I got from looking at the Unicorns delivery receipt

Yep mine was original 4 door, not one of the pretend copies that people put the door in... and then call it a Tristar.

There was another price list put up here a year or two ago and I think it was Syncrosimon who put it up. This list that is on IG16" is a VW price list so you wont find Westys on it. VW didnt make Westys!
I notice the spare wheel carrier didnt suffer from depreciate much over the years
