Broken handbrake cable

Well I sold it but then I broke it..
Its due to be picked up on Sunday by John from SyncroSpares,
and I was just cleaning it out and loading up the spare wheels,
moved it a few feet to open up the rear hatch,
put the handbrake on and had no resistance,
handle came right up, no brake.

I looked under and at the compensator I can see that one cable is pulled out too far.

Is this something I can have a go at fixing with my simple toolkit.
If I ordered a cable from BW would it come in time,
and after that am I likely to encounter another problem,
like not being able to dissemble or assemble,
is it tricky?

I really dont want to have it all in bits when its supposed to be ready to go..
Any thoughts?

Another thing, the cables are sided,
RH is that the drivers side as in RHDrive?

Oh and as its a SA bus some things are different,
a couple of orders were wrong because although it came with 14" wheels it has some 16" bits,
is it possible that the cables are different to UK 14" syncros?

Lucky it broke in such an easy situation,
I can think of at least one very recent spot where it could have been a disaster.

Actually I just now went down to have another inspection,
and shift the van slightly.
Looked more closely at the cables and it appears that one had come out of the compensator.
So I managed to get it back in and it works fine again.
Why would it come out?
perhaps the cable not returning?
I thought it was a bit strange the way it "broke" so easily.

It popped out again, the cable is definitely pulling the handbrake on, but when the brake is let off the cable comes out.
I have worked out the problem, as it runs under the suspension arm the rubber outer has been abraded in rough stuff,
the outer spiral has rusted, weakened, and allowed to compress a bit making it seem like the inner is longer than it should be.
For a temporary fix, I have just wired the nipple to the compensator to stop it coming out.
