I have a leisure battery in my Autosleeper Trident 1990 which is charged while the engine is running and when hooked up to 240 v. Has anyone put in a split charger to charge up the vehicle battery when hooked up to 240v?

thanks

usually there is no need, as the starting battery wont be used when your parked up. but possible if you had a manual override for the solenoid that disconnects the batteries they would be connected while 240volts is going to the battteries, You'd need to check the wires are up to the amps being drawn, what may be better is to get a separate battery charger for the driving battery, aldi do them for around £20 and hook that up to charge the driving battery? Like I say, not usually done as not necessary unless you have drain on the driving battery when parked up.

You can't charge the two batteries at once from the same charger. You can put in a change over switch so you can charge either battery but not at the same time. Mains chargers work differently form alternators and can over charge one battery if they are not the same size and discharged the same.

I have done what Bigherb has suggested above, I can just select which battery I charge from my in built charger. Handy in the winter when my van's laid up in the garage. I also have digital voltmeters connected to each battery so I can check both are charged or charging whilst driving
