Recommendations for new curtains

I'm looking to replace my vans curtains. Needlework isn't my strong point so any suggestions for good places to try.

Thanks

A word of caution: Whilst fleabay may seem like a 'cheap' alternative, pls don't bother. I made that mistake and I'm still using a mates sewing machine to resize the bloomin things :-(. On the plus side, I've realised that I could have made them myself in the first place - they're only differing sized rectangles after all.....as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

Think there's someone on here that does them. VW camper curtains or something similar? Search 'curtains' :ok

They really are very simple to make for anyone with a sewing machine, it may be worth having a quick look in your local paper or post office window to see if there's any seamstresses around - there's often someone locally who does repairs and alterations. It may be a cheaper option than a specialised company who will have greater overheads.

We have a full set of poppered blinds arriving from Delilah's VW Camping Furnishings this week, so will post some pictures when they arrive and let you know if they're any good.

Can't wait to get rid of the horrible, faded, off-red curtains that are hanging in the van at the moment!

I have a problem with curtains, as I feel, they can restrict vision even when tied back.

The missus is one of those who likes to peep out of the window so she likes curtains , she also thinks blinds look sterile in a camper.

I made this demo blind up in about 20 minutes to try to convince her that she could still 'peep' out. It's the same principle as the popperblinds but you can set it at different openings (limitless is you use more velcro)

Basically its strips of wood top and bottom and the material has (in this case self adhesive) velcro fixed at selected points. If you sewed a mag strip in with the bottom wood strip it would stick to the van and seal well.

What do people think?

If needle work isn't your strong point then use wonderweb, it's amazing stuff. I can sew but if you ask my missus to sew something , out comes the wonderweb. Strange that because she knits, weaves and spins really well.

Some photos of our blinds from Delilah's that we finally put up yesterday:

The cab blinds all use magnets while the others are fixed by poppers - they still have the magnets in them though, which has helped to create a nice tight seal.

We have popper tie backs so that we can roll the blinds up without taking them down completely. Will post some photos from inside the van later.

The blackout lining seems to do the trick as its very dark inside with all blinds up - I could see us sleeping till midday without much of an idea that the morning's arrived!

Neeed to buy some Velcro today to see to the hi-top windows. They will just stick to the lining on the inside of the hi-top.

When I bought new curtains for my previous camper a T25, I got them off S.Brown Textiles of Burscough, Lancashire, who regularly sell on Ebay.
They were competitively priced, were lined & of good quality. Last but not least, they had been sprayed with a fire retardant.

Of course, you will not have forgotten the fire retardant when making your home made curtains, will you Daffy?

Erm, would you be surprised if I said yes??? I'm still resizing, so I'll look into getting a spray for the curtains near the cooking area. Thanks for the heads up and Happy New Year ;-)

Well done Daffy! Most people never think about using fire retardant on their home made curtains. Happy New Year. :D
