Speedo needle not moving 1.9DG watercooled

Hi guys,
My speedo needle doesn't move.
Was working fine, no erratic needle wobbling as others describe, just went straight to zero whilst driving along one day.
Looked at the wiki page.
The pic of the wheel hub there shows a metal bar going through the end of the cable, and a jubilee clip around the centre hub.
Mine just has a bent split pin going through the cable end.
Is this still ok to have split pin?
Wondering if the cable is snapped or just spinning. Theres no erratic movement on the needle. No movement at all whatsoever.
Is connected at the dash end.

There looks to be several configurations for this the one shown in the wiki, a circlip over the square end of the cable and yours which has a split pin.
The end of the cable should be square as is the hole in the hub, either the cable or the hub often wears round and then the cable doesn't rotate. A temporary fix is to use a centre punch around the hole in the hub to reduce the hole size. Otherwise if you are not into refurbishing the hub/cable end then new parts are required.

the picky in the wiki i did to solve the problem on mine, it should have a square hole in the dustcap and the cable end should be square with a c clip to retain it , these do fail and a split pin on its own will not really work. so if you still have a hole in the end (must have if youve a split pin through it) then do what ive done as its free

Thanks guys. I will take another look at the pic in the wiki.
think I am still a bit confused with it really. If I turn the split pin round and round, should it spin freely? And if so, should the needle move in the dash at all? Not getting any movement.

If you did get the grease cap off (by removing the split pin and prying it off), you could spin it pretty fast with a drill chuck, and then you should get a reading on the dash.
Unless of course the cable is snapped. Mine snapped suddenly, same symptoms, its a cheap part and fix though, ie a New speed o cable.
E D I T: it should not spin freely in the square hole!
