To cheap to turn down really, been stored in a open fronted garage so open to the elements but dry. The engine is complete with all ancillary's inc turbo, pump, alternator ect.. it's only meant to have done 50 tho'
I'm either going to raid it for spare bits and weigh in the block or i am tempted to get a engine stand and rebuild it. Think i might do that and log it on here, or at least rebuild the turbo and head. could be interesting..... should be picking it up tomorrow

I'd build it up and keep as spare or flog it and make a profit.
If you need a decent stand, I have one you are welcome to borrow.

I do need a stand, but might have it for a while. They only cost about £50, I'd feel guilty having yours fr too long

It's there if you need it. I Bought it to rebuild my old engine, but never used it.

I've got the engine now, all looks good and its from an A4

Dumb question, but this isn't the flywheel is it?? seems very small, maybe part of dual mass???

Its got lots of bits fitted that i've been looking for, fuel filter with head and bracket and pipes to inj pump. This will enable me to fit fuel filter to engine and free up the space where the T3 one fits

pretty good looking turbo with a free moving actuator shaft

And the cherry on the cake of what looks like a more compact alternator which might enable me to have a uncut engine lid, so fingers crossed there.
Also has some of the brackets for sensors which are missing on mine

few differences , think stud wise to box as well maybe but no real worries

strip and build , do it right and log it, im thinkung of doing the same wirth a jx just foir the hell of it

Ah, is that why the flywheel looks funny? Auto!
What makes you think the block to box mounts will be different? I've never heard that? Might ask that Q as a separate thread.
Have to admit I'm pretty happy with the engine. I've turned it around now so it's the right way around and it looks in pretty good nick. All the filters have VW logo's so it's either VW maintained or has never been touched
A few bits will go straight onto my engine, but I would like to rebuild it then either keep or sell, will be another tick on my 'real man list'

on thhe dg/df etc the auto bix being a different casting and as we have discussed before with aiden they weigh a ton,,, almost so the studs mounting the block to box were larger hence me having sdome increased shank ones made up , may not be the csae here though,
vw call them a coupling I think but in all my days with american V8's we refered to them as flex plates,as far as im aware the cranks are the same, but different bolts required to fit flywheel , also not sure about balance issues

Don't forget that behind the flywheel the spigot bearing will be wrong for a manual van, it was the one thing that cought me out when I was swapping my engine.

I've asked the Q on brickyard about auto/manual block differences, I think the only differences are as Neil mentions, input shaft, spigot ect. Will be nice to know for sure though?
