Hi folks, can anyone advise whether this compression tester (ebay item number 300796946692) looks to have the correct adaptors for a VW 1V diesel engine?
Thanks,Will.

Bit hard to say from the pics but I suspect no....however the correct fitting maybe available from Sykes for a decent price...

Seems a poor selection there.
Here's my cheapo Silverline set - it has both injector and glow plug adaptors. I think I paid around £45 for it - far more adaptable to be honest.

Thanks OBG, I don't want to appear tight but does this look as if it would suffice (ebay item number 280987487144) I will probably only use it once or twice so long as it has the correct adaptors for VW?
Thanks,Will.

That should be OK - the thread is M10 x 1 or 1.5 (can't remember which) - that set has both. You can check that your glow plugs are OK whilst you have them out.

Thanks OBG, from that I assume that the tester is screwed into the glow plug hole not the injector? If that is the case how do i stop it from starting when turning the engine over?
Thanks,Will.

Disconnect the stop solenoid on the pump.

That last one you linked to should as it has the rt. angled connector, it is tight and fiddly to get under there but it can be done without removing the pump. You could just use the injector adapter. A pain no matter which way you do it!

Thanks for the tips, I am going to just order one and get stuck in. I need to know what sort of condition the engine internals are in and the best way I can think of is to do a compression test.
Ideally I would have liked to do a leak down test but I am not too clear on what I would require to do that.
Will.
