Hello,
Can anyone tell me where the air filter on my (new to me) 1981 T25 is situated?
There is a wooden box over the carb. part of which has a hose fixed to it which seems to go to the exhaust.
I have attached some photos.
All help will be most welcome!

Someone has modified yours and the 'exhaust' is actually what looks like a diesel air filter housing. Not sure I'd be wanting wood in the engine bay

The cylindrical object in the top right corner of the first photo is likely to contain the air filter (well, it should do).

You've got what looks like a 2 litre Aircooled engine, fitted with an aftermarket single carb. More photos would be good, so we can see what else has been messed with.

Hope you're prepared to learn some mechanical skills, this is going to be an adventure...

Re-fabricate that wooden box out of ally and carry on..... Or look for the proper carbs and air box .

Thanks everybody, The air filter is as suggested a diesel one inside the big tin drum. My local VW garage won't even look at it so I will have to make arrangements to go to the mainland sometime. Am posting more photos as requested.

i have never seen anything like that in my life!!! no wonder the local dealers won't go near it.

Get a proper single carb weber air filter on there pronto before you get very toasty!!! Just type it into google and you'll see what you need.

Looks like an 009 dizzy has been fitted.

Wonder what the brake servo is connected to?

A slightly old thread to bump, but it is a continuing saga and a refresher as to how we've progressed from our last few posts.

Basically we've run into another problem in regards to the carb.

We've now managed to get round to working on the T25 and trying to sort it out enough so we can feel it will safely get to its' next eventual destination (a T25 workshop/restorers).

We discovered the model of carb. fitted is a Weber 32/36 progressive twin DFEV and bought the following filter kit to replace our bird house:

Fitting was a doddle, and the engine once running is now much, much quieter than before, however we've currently got a bit of a problem:

You can start the engine, and it idles fine. You can start the engine with half-acceleration and it happily starts at half acceleration, then you can increase it and it happily roars away.
The trouble is that if you accelerate from idle, or let it drop from full acceleration to idle, then accelerate the engine after a second or two at most cuts out completely.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to why this should happen?

009 ......... great for aero engines, generators, farm machines and water pumps...

Also make sure that all the airpipes are well connected and in good condition..

Yes, listen to the advice you were given and bin the hateful Weber ... replace it with a standard carb set-up and a standard dizzy and then many of the aircold guys will be in a position to help you.
