Do I need to get this welded?

Its the flat bit behind the rear wheal arch. The metal is still solid so I could use a disc sander to get the rust off but that would still leave some rust behind the lap of the join. The MOT guy noticed it a couple of months ago but he didn't seem concerned. I've peeled back the underseal and the surrounding metal is still uncoroded steel. Just wondered if its best to stamp on this now before it spreads.

Any wisdom gratefully received.

Cheers

scrape some more sealant away and if you choose to poke hard enough you will make nyour way throug it
just remove the sealnt back to clean metal all round and then clean it up, wire brush, ditto on a grinder, flap disc whatever then treat with product of your choice sir ! then when dry brush on seam sealant and then dynax s 50.
mm :ok

just discovered the same rust on my van last week!
unfortunatly mine is rusted through... so I'll get the welder out next week.
But it'd do it anyway, it's just a matter of time for it to rust through as well, looks heavily pitted allready, so in the seem it'll just keep on rotting..

Yep, looks like that would go into holes if you grit blasted the rust away.
