Hi

I've just purchased an imported website.
I wish to convert to 240 hookup but want to keep the original sockets inside using uk adaptors.
Will I need to rewire or can I use the existing wiring. I will need to fit a consumer unit as I dose not have one at the moment. Also considering a zig cf8 would love to hear your comments thanks in advance

If it were me, I think I'd be tempted to rewire - the original stuff won't be rated for 240v, and since you're going to need to modify it anyway to add the charger and consumer unit, it's not going to add a lot of work.

Anything you modify will have the Deutsche Devon Disciples* sobbing onto their bbqs and wipe value off the originality premium.

Seriously the wiring wouldn't have been changed for American 110V systems surely? I can understand the internal plug, the charging unit, fridge and the trip switch will be 110V compatible but the wiring between them wont have changed from the European system I would have thought?

As you say.....Ohms law is symbiotic...increasing the volts decreases the amps...essentially the same rated wire but expressed differently.

For safety's sake I would replace the wiring as it will be 'funny' colours and could lead to confusion. (green, white and black)

From what I understand from reading Samba, there's a whole raft of differences to 'merkin Westies.

No RCD
No charger
No heater
No draining board
No waste water tank
Different gas tank connectors & no heater
Different electrical connectors
Different connector locations on the side
Different watertank/tap - so you can use it "plugged in" to water.

Wiring spec's minor compared to that lot...

OldiebutGoodie's point about colour's a good one - hadn't even thought of that!

Fair enough, I had no idea on the US specced westies, Plugged in water indeed!

I'm installing a zig unit and rcd so wiring change is on the cards. Need a new tap, top is missing and some idiot installed a switch on the front, ouch!
Also considering upgrading the citiwater connection to give me the flexibility of direct water connection, the original pumps working now.

The outside has the original hookups but flaps are missing so replacement is on the cards.

Lots of things buzzing through my mind at the mo gonna be an exciting project - and I expect a costly one I expect.
