1998 Polo Diesel identity

Still in search of options to throw in the camper, this ones up for grabs. I think it might be 1.9 na as the tdi was more common around 2000 when the body deign was changed (bigger in the engine bay). 1Y maybe, or maybe even td aaz? (can't find much to suggest the later)

I would hazard a guess at an AEF as the dipstick is at the back - the 1Y dipstick will be at the front.

worth considering? marginally better than JX or similar.?

Marginally less BHP than a JX (64@4400RPM). Marginally less max torque, but good torque all the way down the rev range, so when the JX is off the turbo, it might be better. A steady, basic engine.

If you use it you must use the injection pump, water pump and alternator that comes with it.
