electrical problems

hi everyone just tried to start my van and it was in gear so the usual jerk forward.so tried to start it again and heard loads of clicking noises coming from the back.so i tried to start it again and nothing,lights on the dash came on but then went off.the stereo started turning it self on and off.anyway tried to start it again and get a slight flicker from the dash lights and off again,any ideas.cheers dave
