1.9 TD(I?) - engine ID, oil cooler etc

Hi chaps,
just acquired a new (for us) 1987 T25. Spacemaker! (= massive pop-top).
Ahem, there are some issues which need sorting, I would appreciate any advice you might be able to offer please.
It has a 1.9 TD(I?) engine fitted a few years back. Apparently it's from a Seat Toledo, but I don't know what age and don't have any paperwork for it.
Problem 1: Need the engine number for parts. It's not on the V5, nor any of the documents. I faffed around for ages this morning but really can't read the engine number. Apparently it's well hidden on the non-manifold side on a plate between the 3rd and 4th cylinder. I can see the plate (just) and wipe the gunk off it (with a rag & screwdriver) but really can't see any numbers on it! It's amazingly well hidden behind a breather pipe and 2 water pipes.
Number on head (EASY to read!): 029 103 373 J
I can't find an ECU, but can find a junction box.
Problem 2: There is a terminal on the oil cooler which was disconnected from its wire. I connected it and I think the auxiliary water pump started up (not got a Haynes yet for this engine...see above problem). This was when the ignition was not on. I don't think this is meant to happen? Is there a thermostat which controls when the auxiliary runs? The engine was stone cold when I tried this.
Problem 3: lumpy starting when cold, settles quickly. I'm pretty sure this is one of the glow-plugs, will test when I get the other stuff sorted (see other boards...)
Problem 4: The bottom of the filler pipe drips oil at a slow rate, looks like it has been bodged with silicone sealant. Is a this standard part or is this something made up specially for converted engines?
Err, that's about it for now. I'll try and upload some photos of what I'm taking about.
Many thanks in advance for any advice!
Cheers.
