What do you need apart from the stalk?
My knee kills me after about an hour of driving, and this could be the answer.

You'll need a VSS and you will possibly have to activate cruise via Vagcom.

I have a 2.1 dj with cruise.
There is a module on the spedo that reports speed to a control box to the right of the fuse box ( right hand drive)
There is a vacuum pump in the engine bay to the right of the alternator (and power steering pump)
There is a vacuum controlled device on the throttle lever.
There are vacuum release and electronic switches on the brake pedal (and clutch if you have one)
