Accelerator pedal.

Hi. I've eventually just got back my camper back from the garage after having a 1y conversion. My question is that the accelerator pedal is a bit stiff, does anyone have an idea of what it cold be. I was thinking possibly the cable is damaged or routed wrong. Also could this affect the power of the engine. Feels a little sluggish when in 4th. Thanks in advance

Hi Luke,

I am guessing by your post and the stiff pedal that you still use the original pedal and cable fed system. If so you may have this in the engine bay?,

I use this on my van and it is stiffer than the standard engine feel but you do get used to it and it does have its advantages. You can get the wire triggered peddle like seen here, https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=102885" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and it is much softer under foot and it responds considerably quicker to the extent that your van will feel like a rally car but with that temptation there I know I wouldnt be able to help myself booting it around the place using more fuel :oops: I can only compare the two set ups as the cable fed being like a dimmer switch and the wire fed being like an on and off switch, you can get much more control from the cable fed but the wire fed is impressive form a stand still. Because I have a Syncro and do a bit of off road driving now and again and do some long drives quite often, I am happy with the control of the cable fed but if it was a road vehicle I would be tempted by the wire fed set up.

You wrong hand drive folk have it easy as the Sharan pedal kinda fits in the footwell and works well despite it looking.....anyway for rhd the options are to either use the original cable and somehow attach the throttle pot to it in the engine bay or run the wires to the front and connect the pot to the t3 pedal, as it happens that's what I have been doing today...and despite all the rumours about a heavy pedal etc it works just fine, I didnt want the cable to the rear as on my van the only "breakdowns" I have had are a frozen fuel filter lolly and a frozen cable. I'm half tempted to start knocking up my brackets and selling them as it works really rather well! and no holes in the body drilled either.

Hi jed, it is a garage called cundy Roos service station. The conversion was already done but very badly, so I've taken it to these guys who have done an excellent job in repairing the whole wiring system, coolant system, full engine clean and rebuild, new clutch and body modification to take the 1y engine. As far as i know, it's the original pedal with cable running under the van to the pump. It just feels hard and seems to lack a little throttle response, but maybe that's just me as I'm not used to driving one of these. They assure me it's right but just trying to get a feel off the guys in here who has done the same conversion.
