good news!!
the engine case on my 2Ltr CU has been saved by my local engineering company.
all i plan to do before i put it all back together, is replace the big end bearings( nothing wrong with the old ones, but while its all out, may aswell) and a damn good clean up.
can any one tell me what to put on the joint of the case halves before they bolt back together, and where i might get some of those plastic spacers that fit over the case studs??
any advice or tips, on what to look out for , do's & dont's etc concerning a rebuild please let me know, either on here or via e-mail , anything will be appreciated
also may need to replace my twin solex carbs as they are worn, what is the best set up, bearing in mind the budget is limited?

Hi Nelly,
can't give you any advice with regard to your engine, I'm afraid - I had a VW specialist replace my 2l cu engine.....

Have you tried the VZI Aircooled forum?

cheers, and yes, walking to work does suck, especially when you have to walk past the van!!

Hope you get it sorted soon

To seal the 2 halves use Hylomar(it's blue and comes in a tube) you should get the seals in a complete gasket set,
Get Steve at http://www.gasure.co.uk to rebuild your carbs

I use Wurth Green Flange Sealant, also known as Crushed Kermit due to its Iluminous Green colour!!
Its designed to take up a very small thickness when applied. Blue Hylomar would be a little thick for me on case halves. Its ok for just about everything else though.. pushrod tubes, cylinders to block etc...

Give me a call and I'll give you the Wurth number,

I've used the Hylomar and it did work - that was on a 1600 A/C engine.

doesn't mean the Wurth stuff won't.

Use either - depends what you can get hold easily too
