hi all,

something i only noticed when i visited Weldore, the sliding door has no lock on the outside, just a plain handle. it was a right pain when we camped with the awning, but i just assumed that was how it was. can i change mine (easily) to have a lock from the outside?

its a 1981 1.6 Aircooled.

Should have a lock, check it hasn't been covered over with filler?

You can buy a replacement handle with key and either get it rebuilt to fit your existing keys or just live with having a different key for the sliding door.

Changing the handle is a five minute job - remove inner handle, remove door card (or just pry back the corner by the handle), undo the screw that secures the handle (it's obvious which one it is), swap handle and refit. Really does only take five minutes, someone who has done it before can probably do it in less than 60 seconds.

its defo not filled in. if i change the handle to a lockable type, does that not affect the lock itself? of is it the handle that actually locks?

Lock barrel is in the handle.

Any chance you could take yours apart and post some photos? Never seen a non-locking one before.

i assumed that all T25's had non-locking, then i assumed that it was just the early ones. now i find out i'm the only one!!!!!

hmm, does that class it as rare? might be worth a bob or two? hahaha

may be a bodged LT or bay window handle or i have seenthe welded and ground off

it defo not been filled etc, it seems to match the finish / look of the main door handles, so looks the same age? however, there are s many oddities, and bodge attempts i keep discovering, nothing surprises me!

now i know it wrong, i can source a lockable handle, add it to the winter list!

Mine's the same, just a handle on the sliding door with no slot for a key or anything.

which would explain why it doesn't fit properly, rubs on the door etc.

At this rate of going, my van will have more replacement parts than original parts on it

thats better, picky saves the fun of speculatiion though....
